The first is simple and has been done since the ages. Know the usual areas where the snappers are found, anchor up, spread out the bait and wait!
This involves use of electronics such as the sounder. But you shall need to educate yourself about the basics of how a sounder works — learn how to interpret a sonar image, for instance. Sounding up for a Snapper Where do you look for a snapper? Always keep your sounder turned on, as you never know where the fish might turn up. But generally the fish may be found in shell banks, open mud, structure marks, reef and scallop beds.
Always keep in mind that you may well be driving over the fish. The snapper will have a right go at any food that appears in front of it. So bait fish are quite effective in catching the snapper and lures do work. Fresh squid work great and you may have them frozen after catching them, so that they remain fresh.
But nothing beats catching them live and using them immediately. Pre-made berley blocks or snapper snacks are also available, which are considered more convenient by many. If you want to catch more snapper, then you should be getting a boat. There is only so much that you can do from the shore, unless you have a plenty of patience and a lot of discipline.

You will pick up the reef on the sounder. It comes up suddenly to about 13 or 14 meters. I always fish the very tip of it in around 20 m of water though I have been successful right along it. I fished it Friday for some real big squid and small snapper. It also holds kings and big bream. Either do I, but thats the fun of fishing finding them for yourself and getting the satisfaction of doing so. Unfortunately the squid are not always there. Are the squid always anywhere?
If they were everyone would be there. I have often got squid there big, no i mean huge buggers!! I only knew they were there because they kept chewing the back out of my livies so I put ajig down and left it.

It says to head due east deg until you can see the light house. I have only fished it once and didn't do any good, though that is not to say it is not a good ground. Narrabeen Bait and Tackle always keeps a good fresh stock of both these baits at this time of year. Again, fresh or live bait is critical to success. Local Chris Leslie bagged out on bream and whiting several times in recent weeks using live beachworms and peeled Hawkesbury prawns.
Along with bream and whiting, the southern end of the Mona Vale pool area has also produced plenty of big salmon. Large tailor have been landed late afternoon and early evening at Narrabeen Beach in front of the pines and at Palm Beach at the northern end near the lighthouse on pilchards and mullet strips. The next few months will be the best time to fish all the Northern Beaches for big jewfish, so try to get out as much as possible to land that big one.
Always fish the big tides and use only the very freshest of bait. In Narrabeen Lake the flathead have been at their best for over a month with several locations, such as Jamieson Park, Pipeclay point, the Oval area, around the caravan park and along Wakehurst Parkway proving great hunting grounds for good lizards. Plenty of the locals are catching and releasing flatties over 3kg and many around a kilo are being taken.
Most fishos are using fresh whitebait or large Hawkesbury prawns for best results.
