I think citizens, especially those that have an accounting background, have to be more involved. Many of them give speeches to nonprofit organizations.

I decided that because I was an expert in not only the accounting rules for the private sector, but also for the nonprofit and public sectors as well, I would be valuable on the boards of nonprofits. I think this could be a good time to emphasize that CPAs are not just here to make things add up and do audits, but they have a responsibility for the public interest because of their knowledge, their esteem, and their codes of ethics.
