Charles Darnay is endowed with many virtues. He is sober ,loving a humanitarian, But he always lived in the world of thought and imagination. Darnay is a man who can, in grammertical terms be called an illustration of passive voice. Sydney carton is an illustration of active voice. A single look at Darnay at the old Bailey trial determine his course of action. He says nothing to Stryver. He,simply hands over him a note about the striking resemblances between Darnay and Carton. Darnay has acted once and then unwisely , he leaves for Paris without the knowledge of Lucie and Dr.

He had gone to Paris to find Gabelle arrested. And he himself get arrested and causes untold sufferings to all his people a great man has to die for him. Darnay remains a doll in the showcase, who looks beautiful, but cannot move unless wire pulled. Sydney carton even while apparently list less, is not really so, he help Stryver in every legal case. Whether it has to do with personality, looks, or dialogue, the author can successfully compare or contrast two characters or scenes.

The contrast between the opposing beginning and end states brings to the surface a comparison that other techniques cannot accomplish. Charles Dickens uses this technique in his novel A Tale of Two Cities; he opposes the end states of two individuals with their beginning selves and the crumbling society to bring to light how one can change no matter the situation present to them.

The contrast between the sinner and a good-natured person elevates this, since the sinner must go through more personal reformation than a good-natured person would ever have to in order to reach salvation.

Carton further helps Darnay and implies more of his heroism when he dies for him. Carton knew that if his plan was discovered, he would be just as dead as Darnay. However, Carton kept in mind his promise and carried it through. At this point in time, Darnay expressed a sense of heroism as well because he was prepared to face his death without fear.
